Collection

The first step in adding cards to your collection is to find the card within the Checklists. If the set already exists you just need to navigate to the subset and hit the plus button in the Quantity column. Have you got multiple of a card? No problem, you can add as many of as you want that way.

If you'd like to add cards in bulk, the easiest way is to select all the cards in a subset and use the “Bulk Update” feature in the top left of the table. Here you can either select “Add to Collection” which adds 1 to the quantity of each card selected, or you can select “Bulk Purchase” which allows you to enter a price that you paid for each of the cards that will be added. Again, this feature adds 1 to the quantity of each card selected.

Using Hobby Tracker you can record additional information about cards you own. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to click the player or card name within the checklist. This will take you to a screen where you can see any copies of this card that you own. From here you can click the “Edit” button. Another option is the find the card within your Collection > All Cards screen and click the “Edit” button.

When editing a card that you own you can modify the following information:

  • Condition
  • Notes (Any additional notes you want to store about the card)
  • Personally Signed (Has the card been signed in person?)
  • Price paid
  • Date Purchased
  • Status (My Collection, For Sale/Trade or Sold)

For Sale/Trade

When editing a card that you own (see above) you can change the Status of that card to be “For Sale /Trade”. When doing this you'll be asked to input the price that you're looking to sell the card for. After saving the changes, this card will now end up on your For Sale/Trade list.

Sold

When editing a card that you own (see above) you can change the Status of that card to “Sold”. When doing this you'll be asked to input the price that the card sold for and when the sale went through. After saving the changes, this card will now end up on your Sold list.

Wanted

The best way to do this is via the Checklists. Simply find the set and subset that the card belongs to and select the star in the “Wanted” column. If you want to add heaps of cards at the same time you can use the “Bulk Update” functionality and select the “Mark As Wanted” option.

Sets

Both your PC and your Wanted list can be organised by sets that you can collect. To add a set to your PC just navigate to the set within the checklists and select the star in the “PC” column.

Players

Similar to sets, your PC and your Wanted list can be organised by players as well. To add a player to your PC, navigate to the Players tab within the Collection screen. From here select the “+ Add Player” button. You'll then be asked to enter the player's name and which sport they play. You can also choose to update your wanted list. If you decide to do this, all cards for that player in all checklists will automatically be added to your Wanted list. This will continue to happen as new checklists are added too.

Checklists

While we're still in BETA, feel free to hit me up to add a checklist. It's pretty straightforward for me to do. Just flick me an email at admin@thehobbytracker.com and let me know what you want to be added.

If you're super keen though, please read on...

Can't find the cards you're looking for? No worries, you can add more sets to the database. One approach is to do this manually.

From the Checklists screen, you can hit the “+ Add Set” button to add a new set. After filling in the relevant fields, the set will be created with the default “Base Set” as a subset. From within the set you can then select “+ Add Subset” to add more subsets or you can go into the “Base Set” and start adding cards by selecting “+ Add Card”. This is a pretty slow process but is easy if the set is quite small.

For more complex sets, try using the Bulk Upload functionality. Before attempting this, it'd be best to have an understanding of how CSV files work.

To get going with bulk upload, it's easiest to start by following the manual steps above - create a set and add one card to the “Base Set”. This gives you a good template to work off. You can then navigate to the “Base Set” screen and select “Download CSV” from “Options”. You can then use the resulting CSV to add new cards. The following fields are required in your CSV:

  • Sport - Basketball, Baseball, etc.
  • Year - Year set was released
  • Catalogue Set - Name of the Set
  • Catalogue Subset - Name of the Subset
  • Item Type - Trading Card, Unopened Packet, Wrapper, Album, Box, Uncut Sheet, Postcard, Greeting Card
  • Number - Card Number (Use NNO if not numbered)
  • Name - Name of the player on the card or title of the card
  • Variant - Is there another card with the same number? What is this variant. Leave blank if not a variant
  • Quantity - How many of this card do you want to add to your PC?
  • Wanted - Add this card to your Wanted list. TRUE or FALSE
  • Paid - How much did you pay for each of the cards you're adding?
  • Date Purchased - In the format yyyy-mm-dd

You can add cards from any subset or even completely different sets using a single CSV file. Just remember to update the Catalogue Set and Catalogue Subset columns to do this.

After you have added all the cards to your CSV you can then upload it by selecting “Upload CSV” within “Options” on the Subset screen. Sometimes a bulk upload can take a few seconds to complete but once done you'll be able to see the cards you added within the appropriate places in the checklists (and Collection if you added cards to your collection at the same time).

Once you've completed adding a set and all it's subsets you can submit the checklist for review by clicking “Submit for Review” under “Options” on the Set screen. One of our admin will then review what you've done, make any tweaks if necessary and then publish the checklist for all to use.
